William G. “Bill” Kerr, 71, of Knoxville, died on Thursday, July 16, 2020, 11:11 am, at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. Bill was born on June 25, 1949, Galesburg. He was the son of James T. and Mildred I. (Williamson) Kerr, Sr. Bill married Judith L. Medhurst on July 8, 1973 in Galesburg. Bill is survived by his wife of 47 years, Judith; sons, Andrew W. (Debbie) Kerr of Las Vegas, NV, and Brian L. (Brooke) Kerr of Knoxville; three grandsons, Aiden, Colton and Liam. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, James T. Kerr, Jr. Bill was a member of the Knoxville Class of 1967. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, where he was a Marine Mechanic and served on the USS Proteus. Bill retired from the BNSF Railroad after 40 years of service as a carman. He served as past President of the TCU Local Union. He loved to golf and complete woodworking projects. Most of all, Bill loved spending time with his family. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 from 9:00 -10:30 am, at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory, Knoxville. A private family graveside service will be held at Knoxville Cemetery, with Military rites will be conducted by the VFW/American Legion/AmVets Honor Guard. Memorials in Bill’s honor may be donated to the Knoxville Fire Department, First Responders. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, face masks and social distancing will be required.
