Thomas L. Bird

Thomas Lowell Bird, age 80, of Alexis, Illinois died at 3:53 P.M. on Wednesday, February 7, 2023 at OSF Mary’s Medical Center in Galesburg, Illinois surrounded by his family.

He was born on October 15, 1942 in Monmouth, Illinois, the son of Clifford G. and Ruth E. (Perrin) Bird. He married Sheryl A. Bertelsen in June of 1964 in Alexis, Illinois; then he married Irma L. Munson in June of 1995 in Alexis, Illinois; she preceded him in death on August 19, 2009. He then married Teresa Lester in July of 2010; she preceded him in death on December 29, 2016.

Surviving are his children: Brenda B. Bird of Galesburg, Illinois, Troy R. Bird of Knoxville, Illinois, Scott A. (Maria Isabelle) Bird of Sierra Vista, Arizona, and Heidi A. (Tim) Silberer, Knoxville, Illinois; ten grandchildren; a nephew, Mike R. (Kayla) Bird of Knoxville and a niece, Kelly A. (Tim) McVey of Galesburg, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, and one brother Richard (Dick) H. Bird.

He worked for the Illinois Department of Corrections at the Hill Correctional Center in Galesburg, Illinois, where he was a member of the Hill Correctional Center Weapons Team. He volunteered at the Guardian Angels Pet Rescue and was a member of the Milan Rifle Club.  He was a member of the Alexis Presbyterian Church in Alexis, Illinois. He served in the United States National Guard from 1960 to 1969.

Cremation rites will be accorded. A celebration of life will be held May 20, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the Alexis Presbyterian Church, Alexis.
