Shirley A. Roberson

December 7, 1931 — June 9, 2016

Shirley Adell Roberson, 84, of Knoxville, died peacefully on Thursday, June 9, 2016. She was born on Dec. 7th, 1931 to Victor and Fern (Allen) Olson in Hillman, MN. Shirley graduated in 1948 from Galesburg High School and on Dec. 12th of that year she married Kenneth Albert Roberson at the First Lutheran Church in Galesburg, IL She is survived by one son, Daniel (Joyce) Roberson of Crossville, TN, and two daughters, Rebecca (Dale) Ludwick of Abingdon, IL and Patricia (Earl) Stuckey of Neponset, IL. Her grandchildren, Jane Diamond (Jimmy Cook), Phyllis (Tony) Moreno, Tom Roberson, Angelo (hope) Tipton, Jerimiah (Angie) Tipton, Sadieh Rifai (Doug Patterson) and Adal Rifai, were the joy of her life along with her great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson Joseph Roberson, Daughter-in-law Joyce Roberson, Sister Janice Wood and brothers, Clyde, Bruce and Neil Olson. A few of her jobs were as a cashier at C & E Super Value and Benners in Galesburg, as a waitress at the Pit Stop in Knoxville and as a custodian at Knoxville High School. She had a passion for genealogy and enjoyed yard sales, auctions, Christmas and slot machines. Her husband Kenny was the love of her life and even though they had an occasional disagreement (wink), her dying thoughts were of seeing him again. One of the family’s favorite stories told by our Dad was how he would fly in his airplane over the farm house our Mom lived in as a teenager, and drop love notes attached to rocks for our Mom. His deadpan ending was that he missed her every time. Her love for her family was absolute, she would move mountains and give her last dime to see them happy. Her feisty nature was with her until the very end as the wonderful workers at the KCNH can attest to. She would not “go gentle into that good night.” In accordance with Shirley’s wishes there will be no services, but she would be pleased to know her friends donated to a local animal Shelter of their choosing. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory, Knoxville, Illinois is assisting the family.
