Shirley L. Johnson

Shirley L. Johnson, age 89, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 1:43 A.M. on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at the Rosewood Care Center in Galesburg, Illinois. She was born on June 10, 1927 in Galesburg, Illinois the daughter of Eschel R. and Helen M. (Lane) Johnson. She attended and graduated from Galesburg High School. She married Paul Dixon on February 21, 1947 in Galesburg, Illinois. Surviving is a brother, Earl Johnson of Davenport, Iowa; step-son, Bob (Denise) Secrest of Three Way, Tennessee; one niece, Sally (Fred) Tiessen, Peoria, Illinois; her special friends, Janette (Wayne) Wooldridge, of Galesburg, Illinois; their children: Marcus Wooldridge and his daughter, Emily; Scott (Sarah) Wooldridge and their daughter, Krayson; and Amanda (Rob) Kelley all of Galesburg, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Frank and one sister-in-law, Pat Johnson. She worked as a Telephone Operator starting in 1945 with Instrastate Phone Company in Galesburg, Illinois, retiring in 1990 from Centel. She was a volunteer for Rosewood and the Galesburg Cottage Hospital for 12 years; She enjoyed reading, gardening, playing the organ, and singing with the Sweet Adelines. Music was a large part of her life. She was an active member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Galesburg, Illinois. Shirley greatly treasured all of her many friendships. Cremation Rites will be accorded. There will be no services. Memorials may be made to Rosewood Care Center Activities Department.
