Ruth D. Kelso

Ruth D. Kelso, 74, of Maquon, Illinois passed away, Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at 7:04 P.M. at the OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. Ruth was born on January 17, 1943 in Monmouth, Illinois, the daughter of John and Maxine (McGee) Thurman. She married Wilbur Dean Kelso on June 18, 1961 in Maquon. She was a member of the Maquon United Methodist Church where she was the long time youth group leader. Ruth was also active with the Methodist Women’s group. She also served the Maquon area by being a librarian for many years at the Maquon Public Library. Ruth was part of the team that helped build the current library. She also enjoyed painting floral pictures. Ruth is survived by her husband; Wilbur Dean Kelso of Maquon, 3 children; Rodney (Kim) Kelso of Maquon, Earl Kelso of Maquon, Amy Courson of Maquon, 7 grandchildren; Brennan Kelso, Emma Kelso, Bryson Kelso, Christina Keith, Chad Kelso, Heather Pollitt, Makayla Courson, 3 great-grandchildren; Jace Keith, Kaley Keith, Easton Pollitt, and 2 sisters; Leona (Ronnie) Wallace of Florida, Alice Roming of Texas. She was preceded in death by her son; Matthew Kelso, parents; John and Maxine Thurman, and 4 siblings; Ernie Thurman, David Thurman, Roger Thurman, and Mildred Wall. Visitation will be held Friday, May 26, 2017 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Maquon United Methodist Church. The funeral service will be on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the Maquon United Methodist Church. Interment will be held at the Maquon Cemetery. Pastor Krey Leesman and Pastor Dan Doty will be officiating the services. Memorial contributions may be left to either the Maquon United Methodist Church or to the Maquon Public Library.
