Rollin G. Tye

Rollin Gene “Jake” Tye, of Oneida, Illinois died at 5:33 P.M. on Thursday, June 22, 2016 at Seminary Manor in Galesburg, Illinois. He was born on August 22, 1934 in Galesburg, Illinois the son of Forrest T. and Harriet R. Holmes Tye. He graduated from ROVA High School in the class of 1952, he then attended the University of Illinois. He married Ruby “Rube” Victoria Anderson in 1958 at the Norwood Presbyterian Church in rural Alexis, Illinois. Surviving is his wife, Ruby Tye of Oneida, Illinois; his children: Edwin (Jennifer) Tye of Kewanee, Illinois and Christine (Travis) Williams of Bloomington, Illinois; seven grandchildren: Drew, Erik and Nikki Tye of Kewanee, Illinois and Ty, Piper, Aidan Schuring, Emma Williams of Bloomington, Illinois; one great grandson, Kyler Tye; his siblings, Jerry F. (Sandra) Tye of Robinson, Illinois and Ruth Ann (Lonnie) Johnson of Galesburg, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter-in-law, Vicky Tye. He enjoyed spending time with his family and watching his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. He loved going to the Indianapolis 500 each year. He also enjoyed music and being outdoors. He drove a truck for the former Donald Berg Trucking, and then went to work for the former Farmer’s Co- Op in Oneida for 37 years, serving as manager for 32 years, he retired in 1997. He was past president of the ROVA School District, past president and member of the Oneida Lion’s Club, former member of the Oneida Masonic Lodge – Rio Chapter, and he served on the Oneida Sanitary District for 30 years, GEAPS and the Grain & Feed Association of Illinois, and the Galesburg Regional School Board for 20 years. He served in the United States Army from 1957 until 1959 in the 899 Tank Battalion. Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Oneida, Illinois. There will be no funeral service.
