Roger W. Gardner, 72, of Maquon, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at 5:05 A.M. at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. Roger was born July 8, 1945 in Galesburg, Illinois, the son of Raymond and Zelma (Maner) Gardner. He married Dorothy M. Boone on November 1, 1964 in Galesburg. Roger worked construction all his life as a member of Local 538. He worked for Galesburg Construction and later as a Superintendent for Midwest Foundation Corporation in Tremont, Illinois. His personality was bigger than life. He had an infectious laugh and charismatic sense of humor. He loved spending time with family and working around his farm. He was an avid gun enthusiast and proud member of the National Rifle Association. Roger is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy M. Gardner of Maquon, two sons, Lance Gardner and Travis Gardner of Orion, daughter, Loni (Mike) Baker of Bushnell, 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 1 sister, Carol Dobson, and 1 brother, Bruce Gardner. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Zelma Gardner, and 1 brother, David Gardner. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 1, 2018 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois. Graveside services will be held Friday, March 2, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at the Knoxville Cemetery. Memorial contribution may be left to the University of Iowa Hospital Cancer Research Fund.
