Robert E. Phillips

Robert Eugene Phillips, 75, of Poplar Bluff, MO, formerly of Peoria and Elmwood, passed away Tuesday, Jan.4, 2022 at the St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Robert was born to Robert and Alta (Davis) Phillips on December 28, 1946, in Salinas, CA. He married Jaylee Graves of Elmwood, IL on April 17, 1971. She survives him. He is survived by one daughter, Emily (Phillips) Hagaman and three grandsons – Mason, Aaron and Ethon of Colorado. He is survived by his siblings, Donald Phillips of Virginia and Timothy Phillips of Colorado; and two sisters, Geraldine Sampson of Iowa and Marsha Phillips of Texas.He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Robert graduated from Elmwood High School in 1965 and continued his education at Illinois University before he was drafted into the United States Army, serving from 1966-1968. He was a front linesman machine gunner for one year. In his younger years he worked for the family business, Phillips Drywall Service. Over the years he enjoyed playing sports and pool. He loved to play and watch baseball and basketball. Robert's faith in the Lord as a Christian started when he was 12 years of age. In his later years he traveled a lot. He said he misses is brother, mother and father. He is reunited with them and his remaining family is grateful. Burial, with military honors, will be in Elmwood Township Cemetery.
