Patricia Miller

KNOXVILLE, FORMERLY OF ALTONA, ILLINOIS Patricia Miller died Sunday, April 9, 2017, at the Knox County Nursing Home. Patricia Ann Minor was born on a farm near Mt. Vernon, IL, on April 12, 1930. She was the youngest of six children born to Avery and Bessie (Copple) Minor. At age 16, she graduated from Mt. Vernon Township High School and went on to graduate from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale with a degree in sociology. After graduation, she was hired by the Galesburg YMCA as the women`s activity director. In July, 1952, she married Mac R. Miller. They had three children: Karen (Jon) of Altona, Rodney (Jhon) of San Tan Valley, AZ, and Jerry (Sue) of Clyde, N.C. When the family moved to Altona, Pat substituted in the ROVA District. In 1967, she was hired by Galva District to teach junior high geography and history. After her retirement in 1994, she continued her work with children as an aide in the Galesburg School District. Pat was a long time member of the United Church of Altona and served as a Sunday school teacher for all ages. When she moved to Galesburg, she became a member of the Emmanuel Methodist Church. Most recently she was a member of the Covenant Church in Galesburg. She also volunteered for many years at FISH food pantry. Reading was her favorite past time, and she loved to travel. Pat is survived by her three children, four grandchildren: Alan of TN, Sharon (Jose) of Monmouth, Rebecca of CA, and Mary of N.C. and three great-grandchildren, Ryan, Andrew and Scarlet. A celebration of Pat`s life will be at the Covenant Church in Galesburg on May 13, 2017. Family will be present at 10:00 a.m. A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. with fellowship time afterward. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Covenant Church or to the Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville, Illinois. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Oneida is in charge of arrangements.
