Mary K Olson

Mary K. Olson, age 100, of Wayland, Iowa, formerly of Galesburg, Illinois died at 9:57 pm on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 in Wayland, Iowa surrounded by her family.

Mary was born on June 22, 1923 in Knoxville, Illinois the daughter of Allen G. and Kathryn (Matthews) Martin. She attended and graduated from Knoxville High School. She attended Brown’s Business College formerly of Galesburg, Illinois.  She married Chester Lee Olson on December 1, 1946 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Galesburg, Illinois.

She is survived by her nephew, David (Kathy) Shreeves, great nieces and nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Step-father, Gardie Keith, and a sister, Margaret E. “Betty” McCoy.

She worked throughout her life at numerous places, Western Union, RCA Communications in Honolulu, then Chicago, last at Accounting Systems of Galesburg, Illinois for 41 years, retiring in 1988. She was member of the First Chrisitan Church in Knoxville, Illinois, the Friends Circle and the former Hobby Club.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, November 20, 2023 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois, visitation will be one hour prior to services, with Rev. David Shreeves officiating. Interment will be at the Knoxville Cemetery, Knoxville, Illinois. Memorials contributions may be made to the First Christian Church in Knoxville, Illinois.
