Mary Joan (Oberjohnn) German

December 10, 1931 — May 16, 2017

Mary Joan (Oberjohnn) German passed Tuesday, May 16 at home surrounded by her family. Wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, she will be deeply missed. She was born December 10, 1931 to Mary and Otto Oberjohn. The oldest of two children, her sister Caroline Ewen preceeded her in death. Mary Jo and Otto German married October 10, 1954 and had two sons: David Otto German (deceased) and Roger Aaron German (Stephanie Hanko). She is remembered by her granddaughter, Nicole Lee German (Donovan Rippstein), step-granddaughter, Jessica Hanko-Summers, and two great-granddaughters, Ava Lee German and Fallon Anna Elizabeth Rippstein. Mary Jo graduated from Roseville High School and attended Quincy College in business. After a brief career at Admiral, she was a devoted mother and homemaker and the core of her family. She enjoyed bowling, fishing, and playing cards with her husband Otto. She enjoyed baking for her family, and was known for her cinnamon rolls (and family members looked forward to them at every holiday and birthday). She loved going to Phoenix to spend (extended) time with her sons and visiting London, France, and New York. She was a woman who accepted and always wanted the best for everyone. There will be a Celebration of Life Saturday, May 20, 2017 from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Hurd-Hendricks Fellowship Hall in Knoxville, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Galesburg Rescue Mission. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Knoxville is in charge of arrangements.
