Mary Jean Hallstrom, age 78, of rural Knoxville, Illinois passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 10:30 P.M. at the OSF Saint Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, Illinois. She was born on November 29, 1939, the daughter of Ralph and Nellie (Krantz) Murphy. She attended Knoxville High School, graduating in 1959. She married Wayne Hallstrom on September 1, 1962 in Galesburg. Surviving is her husband, Wayne Hallstrom of rural Knoxville; one son, Larry (Kim) Hallstrom of Dunlap, Illinois; one daughter, Pam Hallstrom of Mobile, Alabama; three grandchildren: Tyler (Grace) Hallstrom of Peoria, Illinois, Kayla Hallstrom of Peoria, Illinois, and Jake Hallstrom of Dunlap, Illinois. Also surviving are her sisters: Serena (Bob) Simmons of Knoxville, Connie (John) Davies of Delong, Illinois, Wilma Adcock of Hudson, Kentucky; and one brother, Leo (Bert) Murphy of Galesburg. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Kenny, George, and Loren; and one sister, Annabelle Groom. She was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church of Galesburg, Illinois. She worked at Admirals in Galesburg, and then later had daycare in her home. She then worked at the Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville, until her retirement. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home & Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, February 23, 2018 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home & Crematory in Knoxville, Rev. John Carlson officiating. Interment will be at the Knoxville Cemetery in Knoxville. Memorials may be made to the Bethany Baptist Church.
