Margaret E. Cypert

May 22, 1921 — July 12, 2017

Margaret E. Cypert, age 96, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 6:25 P.M. on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville, Illinois. Marge was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on May 22, 1921, and raised in Onida, South Dakota. She was the oldest of six, she learned early on to provide and care for family. Early jobs included working for the local drug store and the county court house. She much preferred working outdoors than indoors and spent much time working in the fields with her father on the family farm. A strong patriot, she responded to the bombing of Pearl Harbor by learning to weld; she worked as a welder at the ship yards in Portland, Oregon to help rebuild our Navy. After the war, she found her way to Denver, Colorado, working at Gates Rubber Company and eventually Wonder Bread Bakery, where she met J.W. Cypert. They married and started a steady march eastward, expanding Wonder Bread’s territory. After stops, in Sioux City, Des Moines, Ottumwa, and Davenport, Iowa, the family settled in Galesburg, Illinois in 1963. In Galesburg, Marge worked at Gambles Furniture, then Leath Furniture, where she retired. She showered her grandchildren with love and humor. It was a given, that Grandma would have a tea party any time the grandchildren came by. Marge enjoyed her time outdoors, in her garden and tending to her flowers. She was working in her flower garden when she passed. Surviving are her children: Jerry (Laura) Cypert of Vero Beach, Florida, Joe (Kathy) Cypert of Oswego, Illinois, Jon (Dawn) Cypert of Galesburg Illinois; three grandchildren: Conrad Jacob “CJ” Cypert of Vero Beach, Florida, Samantha “Sam” Cypert of Galesburg, Illinois, Will Cypert of Galesburg Illinois; and one brother: Jerry Culey of Gillette, Wyoming. She was preceded in death by her parents: Clarence and Helen (Tanner) Culey; two brothers: Robert and Donald; and two sisters: Colleen and Audrey. Cremation rites will be accorded. There will be no services. Memorials may be made to Covenant Church for Bible Camp Scholarships. Online condolences or expressions of sympathy can be made through www.hurd-hendricksfuneralhome.com.
