Madeline Louise Carrigan

Madeline Louise Carrigan, 88, of Knoxville, Illinois passed away Monday, May 30, 2016 at 8:00 P.M. at the Heartland Health Care Center in Galesburg, Illinois. Madeline was born December 8, 1927 in Persifer Township, Illinois, the daughter of John and Agnes (Courter) Eiker. She was a graduate of Victoria High School and the University of Illinois where she earned a Master’s Degree in Education. She married Derrill Dean Carrigan on August 18, 1956 at Maxey Chapel in Persifer Township. Madeline was an educator with a long and rewarding teaching career that began at the Fort Henry one-room school in Persifer Township. She taught at many schools in the West Central Illinois area including those in Galesburg, Knoxville, Peoria, and for two years in Long Beach, California. She loved serving the church and took great pride in organizing Vacation Bible Schools, holiday programs and other activities. Madeline loved music and was the pianist and organist at Maxey Chapel for many years. She is survived by her husband, Derrill Dean Carrigan of Knoxville, Illinois, 2 sons, John (and Sue) Carrigan of Knoxville, Illinois, Kendall (and Christine) Carrigan of Levan Utah, 4 grandchildren, Karen (and Brandon) Upchurch of Niskayuna, New York, Katelyn Carrigan of Galesburg, Illinois, Bambi (and Jerry) Strom of Galesburg, Illinois, Michael Rodriguez of Galesburg, Illinois and 6 great-grandchildren, Lily Upchurch, Zoe Jacobsen, Jacklyn Strom, Keegan Knutson, Quinton Knutson, and Cobain Knutson. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Agnes Eiker, and her sister Bernice Marie Eiker. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 3, 2016 from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M. at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Knoxville, Illinois. The funeral service will directly follow the visitation at 1:00 P.M. Interment will be at Haynes Cemetery, in rural Delong, Illinois. Memorial donations can be made to the Maxey Chapel.
