Lynn A. Bowman

Lynn A. Bowman, age 63, of Oneida, Illinois died at 7:53 A.M. on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Lynn was born on August 25, 1953 in Galesburg, Illinois, the son of Edward and Una Bowman. He graduated from ROVA High School and then from Blackhawk East. He married Sally Wheeler on August 25, 1984 in Oneida, Illinois. Surviving is his wife, Sally Bowman of Oneida, Illinois; children, Andrew (Karlie) Bowman of Oneida, Illinois and Elizabeth (Matthew) Hulsizer of Galesburg, Illinois; his sister, Lisa (Mike) Moody of Galesburg, Illinois; one grandson, Ryker Bowman of Oneida, Illinois, and his mother Una Bowman of Oneida, Illinois. Lynn was preceded in death by his father. Lynn was a member of the Oneida Masonic Lodge 337 and a Past Master. He was the secretary of the former Oneida Co-op. Lynn was a member of the Oneida Telephone Exchange Board, ROWVA School Board, the Knox County Farm Bureau, SVEA Mutual Insurance Board and a Trustee of the Oneida-Wataga Fire District and Ambulance Service. He was a past Chairman of the Soil & Water Conservation District and the past treasurer, Sunday School Teacher and Youth Group Co-Leader for the Oneida Methodist Church. Lynn was a proud fourth generation farmer, where he began working with his father in 1971. In 1980, he became the second generation to sell insurance with SVEA Mutual. Farming was his passion while the insurance agency was his service to his peers and community. He considered his insurance clients “his people.” He endured great hardships with his declining health, beginning in 2000. But the pain never matched his love for God, family, farm and community. Lynn showed great strength, quietly and without fanfare, as he always focused on others--even while he constantly hurt. He derived great joy from making memories with his family, especially working together on the farm. He served his clients and on multiple boards in the community to the very end. Most go to heaven to rest; Lynn goes to begin his real work. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 16, 2016 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Oaks Community Church on 1868 Congregation Road in Dahinda, Illinois 61428. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 10:00 AM also at the Oaks Community Church, with Rev. Marty Briney and Rev. Terry England officiatng. A Fellowship luncheon will be held at the Oneida Fire Station following interment at the Oneida Cemetery in Oneida, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oaks Community Church, ROWVA Public Schools Foundation, ROWVA FFA and the Altona-Oneida-Wataga Ambulance and Fire Department.
