Lori Angelina Strohmaier Eklund Lori Eklund, 53, of rural Knoxville, passed away peacefully at 12:00 A.M. Saturday, September 24, 2016 in her home. Lori was born December 14, 1962 in Galesburg, Illinois, the daughter of the late Bill and Lee Strohmaier of Oquawka, IL. She was raised in Galesburg, later moved and graduated in the Union High School Class of 1981 in Biggsville, IL. Lori married Roger Eklund, October 16, 1987 in Knoxville, IL. She is survived by her husband, Roger Eklund; two sons, Tyler and Kyle Eklund of rural Knoxville, IL; sisters, Karren Whited of Virginia Beach, VA, Cheryl (Mike) Fergusson of Galesburg, IL, Sharon Wilkins of Galesburg, IL, Linda (Dale) Steward of Alpha, IL, Brenda (Fred) Stewart of Oquawka, IL, Pam Lytle of Knoxville, IL; brothers, Bruce (Brenda) Strohmaier of Tyner, KY and Matt Wilkins of Alpha, IL, Step-Brother Tim Wilcoxen of Gunzburg, Germany and Two Step-Sisters, Marsha Wilcoxen of Bushnell, IL and Julie Wilcoxen of Galesburg, IL. She was preceded in death by her sister, Cheryl Jones. Lori worked as a cook at Knoxville Junior High School, where she enjoyed serving the children of the community. As a mother of two, she loved spending time hunting for mushrooms and arrowheads with her family. Lori enjoyed the outdoors and gardening; she was known for her homemade salsa, pickled green beans and stuffed mushrooms at Christmastime. Some of her favorite things included red roses, covered bridges, kittens and watching her sons, Tyler and Kyle play football. Memorial Services will be held Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Oaks Community Church, 1868 Congregation Rd, Dahinda, IL 61428 Dahinda, with Pastor Marty Briney, officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00am-11:00am at the church, with a funeral service to follow. The family requests that memorials be made to ROWVA Cougars Football team or Beacon of Hope Hospice. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois is assisting the family with arrangements.
