Linda Eileen Smith

Linda Eileen Smith was born on February 14, 1938, in Galesburg, Illinois to parents Earl Dale Doubet and Helen M. (Gibson) Doubet. She passed away peacefully on September 8, 2022, in Plano, Texas.

Linda attended The University of Illinois for a year following high school and in 1958, married Charles Johnson and had their four amazing children, each a year apart, while living in Williamsfield, Illinois. The whole family moved to Texas in the 1980’s for employment opportunities. Linda’s entire professional career was spent working in customer service and project management. She retired in 2003 and moved back to Williamsfield to help care for her mother, Helen.

In the fall of 2003, Linda married Robert Smith and remained in Williamsfield until his death in 2019. She then returned to Texas to live with her daughter Kathy and favorite son in law Gary, where she received their love and care during her final years.

Linda enjoyed quilting, crocheting, swimming, and watching the Texas sunsets. Time with her grandchildren also brought her immense joy. Music was always an important part of her life. She played the clarinet, violin and piano and performed with the Sweet Adeline’s women’s vocal group as well as participating in the church bell choir. She could often be found sitting on the porch or patio listening to her favorite music.

Linda is survived by her children Doug (Dana) Johnson, Mike (JoElla) Johnson, Jim (Denise) Johnson, Kathy (Gary) Bennett, sixteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, siblings Anne (Larry) Mattson and Philip (Teresa) Doubet. She was preceded in death by her parents, and husbands Charles Johnson and Robert Smith.

There will be a visitation from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 19, 2022, at Williamsfield United Methodist Church, 430 N Chicago St, Williamsfield, Illinois 61489. The funeral service to celebrate Linda’s life will follow at 11:00 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend a luncheon following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made in Linda’s name to the Doubet-Benjamin Park, where a bench will be created in her memory.
