Leslie R. Mitchell

Leslie R. Mitchell, age 84, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 8:00 P.M. on Monday, June 12, 2017 at his home in Galesburg, Illinois surrounded by his family and friends. He was born on September 25, 1932 in Galesburg, Illinois the son of Rosco and Grace Griggs Mitchell. He married Drusilla A. “Dodie” Wiedenhamer on June 9, 1967 in Galesburg, Illinois. She preceded him in death on June 3, 2006. Surviving is one granddaughter; one sister, Betty (Sid) Davis of Dahinda, Illinois, and one brother Bobby (Carol) Mitchell of Knoxville, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son, David J. and one sister, Donna. He was a truck driver for Brown’s Specialty, Dohrn Trucking and Freight Core; then he worked maintenance in construction in Kansas City, Missouri. He moved back to Galesburg in 2006. He served in the United States Navy from January 4, 1951 to November 4, 1954. Cremation rites have been accorded. There will be no services. Inurment will take place at St. Joseph Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Joseph, Missouri. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Knoxville is in charge of arrangements.
