Larry Lee Myers, age 71, of rural Galesburg, Illinois died on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at this home in rural Galesburg, Illinois. Larry was born on March 24, 1945 in Augusta, Illinois the son of Harold Lee and Iola Jean Sapp Myers. He graduated from Augusta High School in Augusta, Illinois. He married Anita K. Covert on November 26, 1966 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Carthage, Illinois. Surviving is wife Anita Myers of rural Galesburg, Illinois; two children, Eric (Alison Marie) Myers of Golden, Illinois and Alison Ann (Steve) Darst of Avon, Illinois; six grandchildren: Spencer, Evan, and Warren Myers, Hunter, Parker and Ryker Darst; step-father, Fredrick Weinberg of August, Illinois; mother-in-law, Arlene Lantz of Carthage, Illinois; his siblings: Sandra (Maurice) Hilton of Bushnell, Illinois, Meredith (Cathy) Myers of Augusta, Illinois, Michael (Carmen) Myers of Mt. Sterling, Illinois, Mark (Melinda) Myers of Augusta, Illinois, Suzie O’Brien of Takoma, Washington, Julie (Ron) Hiland of Augusta, Illinois, Jeff (Dawn) Weinberg of August, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, James Aaron Weinberg, and his father-in-law, Elbert Covert. He graduated from Gem City Business College and Western Illinois University. He began working for Blue Cross Blue Shield as Senior Auditor then State Area Provider Affairs Representative. Then, Fiscal Services Director at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. He continued his career as Accounting Manager at Community Memorial Hospital in Monmouth, IL. He retired from Henry C. Hill Correctional Center in Galesburg, IL as the Business Manager. He was a member of the Harry Philblad American Legion Post 749 of Knoxville, Illinois and served as its Financial Officer; he served on the Knox County Board from 1999 to 2002; member of Grace Lutheran Church in Knoxville, Illinois and served on the Congregational Council. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing; he was an avid Cardinal and Chicago Bears Fan; and he enjoyed watching his grandkids in their sporting events. He served in the United States Navy from 1964 to 1968, then the Illinois National Guard from 1978 to 1986, then the United State Navy Reserve starting in 1987 retiring at Chief Petty Office in 2001. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois. Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Grace Lutheran Church in Knoxville, Illinois, Rev. Michel D. Clark will officiate. Inurnment will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, July 22, 2016 at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Colmar, Illinois, with Military Rites conducted by the United States Naval Reserve.
