Kathryn M. Jones

Kathryn M. “Katie” Jones, 87, of Knoxville, Illinois died at 7:55 A.M. on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at the Courtyard Estates of Knoxville. She was born on August 11, 1929 in Galesburg, Illinois the daughter of Ernest and Mary Vitali Oakes. She attended and graduated from Galesburg High School in 1947. She married Monte Dean Jones on May 9, 1948 in Galesburg, Illinois. He preceded her in death on September 27, 2013. Surviving are four daughters: Linda (Troy) Lee of Villa Rica, Georgia; Monica (Larry) Clevenger of Knoxville, Illinois; Debra (Kenny) Davis of Galesburg, Illinois; Sandra (Tim) Jones of Knoxville, Illinois. Eight grandchildren: Derrick (Laura) Lee, Josh Smith, Chad (Missy) Clevenger, Lucas (Veda) Johnson, Lindsay (fiancé Tyson Wooldridge) Johnson, Keegan (fiancé Cara Adolphson) Jones, Haley Jones, Tessa Jones, and twelve cherished great grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters: Jean Clary of Normal, Illinois; Holly Gregory of Cocoa Beach, Florida; Clara (Tom) Nold of Shelburne, Vermont; and one brother, Ernie (Vickie) Oakes of Hinesburg, Vermont. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Monte; one son, Monte Duane, and one great grandson, Trenton Lee. Katie was a licensed beautician; she also worked for the Knox County Nursing Home and was a bus driver for District 202. She was a member of the Knoxville United Methodist Church and the Western Illinois Antique Auto Club. She enjoyed sewing, baking and having fun. Katie had a knack for laundry. She was a spirited woman always ready to go. Katie loved visiting with people, the taste of chocolate and most of all being with her family. Please join the family in Celebrating Katie`s Life on Sunday, January 15, 2017 from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. at the Hurd-Hendricks Fellowship Center, Knoxville, Illinois. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, January 16, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois with the Revs. Chet Travis and Dan Lybarger officiating. Burial will be at the Knoxville Cemetery in Knoxville, Illinois. In-lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Knoxville United Methodist Church or Charity of the Donor’s Choice.
