Kathryn “Joyce” Hudson, 90, of Knoxville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, 6:17 PM, at the Knox County Nursing Home with her family at her side. Joyce was born on August 31, 1931 in Williamsfield. She was the daughter of William Otis and Myrtle Agnus (Morgan) Seward. She married Richard L. Rainey on April 12, 1953 in Knoxville. He preceded her in death on October 18, 1979. She later married Mack M. Hudson on May 14, 1984 in Meridian, Mississippi. He preceded her in death on May 19, 2003. Joyce is survived by her children, James (Mecca) Rainey of Quincy, Jon (Debbie) Rainey of Knoxville, Paul Rainey of Ankeny, Iowa, and Amy Krantz of Peoria; son-in-law, Jeff Bivens of Knoxville; seven grandchildren, Tricia (Gregg) Bivens-Stanley, Zoë Krantz, Carissa Rainey, Maggie Krantz, Emma Krantz, Conner Rainey, and Bobby Jo Matthews; two great-grandchildren, Aubree Bivens and Emilee Gilbert; and two great-great grandchildren, Amaree Wallace and McKinlee Triplett. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, two brothers, three sisters, and her daughter, Peg Bivens. Joyce was a 1949 graduate of Knoxville High School and a 1952 graduate of Julia F. Burnham School of Nursing in Champaign. She was a Registered Nurse for St. Mary Medical Center, Knox County Nursing Home, and Visiting Nurses Association. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Knoxville and the P.E.O. Sisterhood. Joyce loved art, trying new recipes, and entertaining on her lanai in Florida. Most of all, Joyce loved spending time with her family and being a grandma—that was her “happy.” Cremation rites have been accorded. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory, Knoxville. A visitation will be at the funeral home at 10:00 AM. Burial of cremated remains will follow funeral services at the Knoxville Cemetery. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory of Knoxville has been entrusted with arrangements. Memorials may be donated to the Knox County Historical Society. Due to the new COVID-19 Mask Mandate, the funeral home will maintain compliance and ask that guests wear a mask.
