Judith Ann Allison Kincel

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Judith Ann Allison Kincel, 81, who left us on July 14, 2020 after suffering bravely with Parkinson’s, a disease which robbed her of her mobility and independence but not her sharp mind and determination. She was born and raised in Galesburg, Illinois with her sister Janet. She graduated from ROVA High School in Oneida, Illinois in 1956 and attended nursing school at the Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. Although she would return to her Midwest hometown to be with her beloved sister upon retirement, she spent the bulk of her life and raised her children in Southern California and returned to live with them in California not long before her passing. Judy grew up on a farm and learned the value of hard work early. She spent her life caring for others both at work and at home. She worked as a nurse for over 40 years in numerous fields including oncology, surgery, industrial and home health as well as hospital administration. She preferred primary care and never walked by someone in need without stopping to help, even when she was in charge of the whole hospital. People who worked for her and patients under her care sang her praises because she was at her core, kind and caring to everyone. She had a lifetime passion for reading spending time in antique stores and quilting. She filled countless notebooks with copied, handwritten recipes she hoped to try one day. She loved travel and experiencing the world through other’s eyes. She was a huge fan of music especially Bach, progressive jazz, and classic rock. She enjoyed spending time with her family most of all, and loved going out to eat whether it was a Vegas buffet, In-n-Out Burger or a fine dining restaurant for a plate of scallops. She was a member of the 1st Methodist Church in Galesburg, Il where she volunteered, particularly when the need was for help in cooking meals. She was the living embodiment of her favorite Bible verse Galatians 5:22 “But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness and faith.” She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Harold Selman, daughters Miriam Hameed and Sarah Perry, grandchildren Danielle and Nicolas Perry, nephews Sean and Christian Sullivan and many others who will miss her quiet, giving spirit and sense of mischief dearly.
