John Gordon Bordwell, age 69, of St. Charles, Bensenville, and Knoxville, Illinois, passed away on January 18, 2019. He was born on March 20, 1949 in Galesburg, Illinois, the son of Gordon and Elizabeth "Betty" (Benedict) Bordwell. John attended Knoxville and Galesburg schools, and graduated in 1968 from Fenton High School in Bensenville. After graduation, he then attended Elmhurst Community College. On November 19, 1971, John was married to Susan Storr. They have a son, Jonathan G. Bordwell, and a grandson, Max Gabriel Bordwell of Arizona. Left to cherish John’s memory are many; including his son, Jonathan Gordon Bordwell; one precious grandson, Maximillion Gabriel Bordwell; his three loving sisters: Carolina Bordwell of Illinois, Georgia Simmons, Leilani (and Peter) Toureene of Wataga, Illinois. Also surviving are his nephews and nieces: Kathy (and Ed) Williams of South Carolina, Tina (and Mike) Caldwell of Arizona, Johannah Muhs of California, Christina (and Vagen) Ohanian of Illinois; great-nephews and great-nieces: Devin, James, and Jackson Bradley of California, Thomas and Tiffanie (and James) Williams of South Carolina, Peter Caldwell of Arizona, and Nicholas and Stephanie Ohanian of Illinois. John was preceded in death by his parents; and a nephew, Matthew Bradley. For many years, John worked in many areas of auto mechanics, construction, tree surgery, and landscaping. He was a very hard worker and was a skilled jack-of-all-trades. He owned and operated JG Bordwell Hauling, serving many communities, as well as family and friends. He will be remembered for his great love of country music and NASCAR racing. Although John was a man of few words, he was a good person who would not hesitate to help a stranger or anyone in need, and was a great supporter of all of our veterans. While John was not a member of any particular church, he believed in the Lord Jesus Christ. He was buried on March 21, 2019 at the Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg, Illinois. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2019 from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge: 2250 West Lincoln Highway, St. Charles, Illinois. Please come bring stories, memories, or pictures to share with friends and family. A dessert bar will be served with keepsakes. Thoughts and condolences can be sent to the family.
