James Herbert Hutchcroft, 82, Knoxville, died at 9:30 pm Monday, September 12, 2016, at Heartland Healthcare Center, Galesburg, with family at his side. Cremation rites will be accorded. Jim was born November 26, 1933, in Mediapolis, Iowa, the son of Herb and Mildred Hutchcroft. He married Sally Ann Hopkins on January 28, 1956, in Galesburg. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sally; his children, Ann (Les) Weber of Coralville, Iowa, and Joel (Pam) Hutchcroft of Knoxville; his sister, Judy (Dick) Newcomb of California; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Jim graduated from Knoxville High School in 1951 and attended Bradley University. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, being stationed near Pusan. He worked for Hutchcroft Implement in Galesburg, owned and operated his own trucking company with business partner Bernie Stomberg, was an over the road truck driver for Dohrn Transfer Co., also drove for Knoxville Transport Co., and worked as a security guard at Gates Rubber Co. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Knoxville, Sigma Chi Fraternity, and the Harry W. Philblad American Legion, Post 749. He enjoyed reading, watching professional and college football, playing the piano, and tinkering with machines of all kinds. He also appreciated anything “John Deere.” A celebration of life is pending at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home, Knoxville. Private family committal will be at a later date.
