James M. Hunter

James M. Hunter, 75, of Yates City, died March 22, 2019 at his home. He was born May 9, 1943 in Galesburg. On March 25, 1967, he married Virginia (Lane) in Ottawa, IL. James served in the U.S. Army with the “Big Red One” unit from 1961 to 1965. When he returned home, he began attending classes at Canton Community College. James worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad for 33 years as a conductor and brakeman. He retired in June of 2003. James was an avid reader, sports fan, and was creative with home solutions. He is survived by his wife; son, Jim (Emily) Hunter; daughter, Lee (Todd) Genandt; son, Travis Hunter; three grandchildren: Ellen Hunter, Danielle Hunter, and Michael Hunter; and brother, William (Diana) Hunter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gale and Lois Hunter. Private graveside services will be held at a later date.
