Floyd W. Downing, age 84, of Galesburg, Illinois, died at 7:05 P.M. on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at the WoodRidge Supportive Living Residence in Galesburg, Illinois He was born on Monday, April 2, 1934 in Bunch, Iowa, the son of Fred E. and Arminta (Jarvis) Downing. He served his country in the United States Airforce from 1952 until September of 1956. He married Wilma Lofgren and she preceded him in death in 2001. Floyd later married Marilyn Bruniga on May 18, 2002 in Knoxville, Illinois. Marilyn preceded him in death on August 3, 2014. Surviving are his five children: Patsy (and Phil) Hoffman of Texas, and granddaughter, Jackie Michelle (and Rhinehart) Butzke; Judith (and Dan) Doubet of Galesburg, Janet (and Gary) Carstensen of DeWitt, Iowa, Jackie (and Stephen) Stone of Knoxville, Illinois, Gary (and Jackie) Lofgren of Gilson, Illinois; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; surviving siblings of Ottumwa, Iowa; and his beloved companion dog, MoMo. He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; many brothers and sisters; one grandson, Kurt Doubet; and one great-grandson, Dakota Zimmerman. Floyd worked as an auto mechanic in the Galesburg area and had also worked in California for ten years. He was a life member of both the Alpha Masonic Lodge #155 AF & AM in Galesburg, Illinois and the Harry Philblad American Legion Post #749 in Knoxville, Illinois. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory, Knoxville, Illinois, with Masonic services at 2:00 P.M. by the Galesburg Alpha Masonic Lodge #155 AF & AM. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at 2:30 P.M. at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois. Rev. David Shreeves will officiate. Interment will be at the East Linwood Cemetery in Galesburg, Illinois with Military Rites conducted by the VFW/American Legion and AMVETS Honor Guard.
