Florence King

Florence Irene (Carlson) King of Galesburg, Illinois, formerly of Victoria, Illinois, passed away on January 17, 2016 at the Marigold Health Care Center in Galesburg, Illinois. She was born on Oct. 29, 1925 and was 90 years old. She married Bennie Corwin King on July 31, 1946. She was preceded in death by her husband, her special foster parents Esther and Bill Trotter and her birth parents Katherine and Charles Carlson. Ben & Florence had 3 children: Bev (George) Ferris, Kalispell, MT; Betty (Dan) Strange, Cambridge, IL and Joe (Starla Fisher) King, Oneida, IL. 6 grandchildren: Marc Wallace; Matthew & Nikki (Ray) Wallace; Lisa (Strange) & Paul Miller; Tim & Carrie (Olson) Strange; Jesse Ben King and Jennifer (King) & Justin Boisen. 2 great grandchildren: Marcus Wallace and Katie Miller. Other siblings of her birth parents: Charlotte (Carlson) Birnbaum; Jim Carlson and deceased: Eleanor (Carlson) Cox; Genevieve (Carlson) Truelove and Bill Carlson. For most of her life she was mainly a homemaker and spent much time with her children and service to her church. Florence enjoyed quilting and doll collecting. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints, now the Community of Christ Church. Ben and Florence were charter members of the Little John Conservation Club and enjoyed spending special moments there. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2016 from 10:00 A.M. – 11:00 A.M. at the Hurd Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Oneida, Illinois. A funeral service will follow at 11 A.M.
