Dorothy E. Smith, age 96, of Wataga, Illinois died at 4:25 P.M. on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Marigold Rehabilitation & Health Center, Galesburg, Illinois. Dorothy was born on October 1, 1921 in Galesburg, Illinois, the daughter of Dwight D. and Rosetta Pearl Fones Morgan. She attended and graduated from Wataga High School. She married Roy V. Smith in 1941 in Hannibal, Missouri. He preceded her in death in November of 1985. Surviving are her children: Roy V. Smith, Jr. of Wataga, Illinois, LaVerne D. (Kathy Kozic) Smith of Sussex, Wisconsin, Loretta J. Woodside of Oneida, Illinois, Larry Smith of Galesburg, Illinois, Dorothy D. (Steve) DeWitt of Williamsfield, Illinois, Carol S. Dixon of Wataga, Illinois, and Carolyn S. Lawson of Galesburg, Illinois; eighteen grandchildren; thirty-two great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. She is also survivied by her siblings: Lee (Linda) Morgan of Wataga, Illinois, Willard “Bud” (Beverly) Morgan of Galesburg, Illinois, Donna Varner of Oneida, Illinois, Marietta Pattison of Galesburg, Illinois, and Lois Berg of Wataga, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one son: Dennis; two great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; two brothers: David and Robert; and one sister: Maxine. She worked as a mail sorter for the United States Postal Service in Galesburg and Wataga, Illinois. She enjoyed card playing, bowling, and horseshoes. She was a member of the American Bowling Congress. She attended the Congregational Church in Wataga, Illinois. She loved spending time with her family, friends and was always on the go. She also loved to watch cardinals. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois with a visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Rev. Jim Epperson will officiate. Burial will be at the Wataga Cemetery in Wataga, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Tennessee and the American Cancer Society.
