Doris McMaster Kemp, 93, of Knoxville, Illinois passed away Friday, October 28, 2016 at 8:50 P.M., at the Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville, Illinois. She was born June 2, 1923, in Galesburg, Illinois to Guy A. and Agnes Hayes McMaster and lived most of her life in the Oneida area. She graduated from Oneida High School in 1940 and from the University of Illinois in 1944. She was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. She married Jarrett “Jerry” Kemp July 22, 1944 in Champagne, Illinois. She taught in the Galva school system for twenty one years in the elementary, middle, junior high and high schools. She was a member of the United Church of Oneida, Presbyterian Women’s Association, Oneida Women’s Club and Knox County Retired Teachers Association. Doris was survived by her 3 children, Guy Daniel (and Sandie Smith) of Hope Mills, North Carolina, Kathryn (and Pete) Disbennett of Knoxville, Illinois, Janette Marie Woods of Phoenix, Arizona, 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and a special niece, Beverly Pettit of Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister, Avis Moore. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at the United Church of Oneida in Oneida, Illinois. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Oneida Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be left to the United Church of Oneida or to the charity of donor’s choice.
