Dorean Eileen Archibald

November 7, 1940 — November 24, 2021

Dorean Eileen Archibald, 81, reunited with the love of her life on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at 5:37 PM. Eileen was born on November 7, 1940 in Muscatine, Iowa. She was the daughter of Stanley E. and Dorean Iona (Smith) Smith. She married the love of her life, Grant Archibald, Jr. on October 2, 1960 in Galesburg, IL. He preceded her in death on July 25, 1983. She was survived by her children, Diana (Mark) Phillips of Springville, CA, Daniel “Danny” Archibald of Altona and Jeraldine “Jeri” (Kenneth) Lee of Galesburg; five grandchildren, Amber (Jeffrey) Lee, Ashley (Jeremy) Lee, Cody (Brittany) Brown, Brandon Roberson and Nicholas (Nicole) Phillips; ten great grandchildren, Ameilia, Caleb, Abigail, Dewey, Anita, Zackariah, Riddick, Kalista, Addison and Trinity; her sisters, Irene Smith of Galesburg and Sue Wheeler of Oquawka; and her aunt, Marie Ferry of Galesburg. She was preceded in death by numerous family members that were near to her heart. Eileen worked at the Hotel Custer and delivered the Register Mail in Oneida and Altona. Her pride and joy in life; however, was her contributions in child rearing, of which there were many. She helped raise the next generation of children in many families as well as her own. She spent her life teaching her family how to love each other by always putting others first and making sure they were happy. She was very proud of her family. Eileen loved to garden and shared that love with her children. She felt that education was very important for the next generations and would take her children and granddaughter, Amber to the local library often. She had a large frog collection and even was a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle fan. Most of all, she liked her food and spending time with family. She spent time teaching her granddaughters how to make “pumpkin pie” from scratch since Thanksgiving was one of her favorite holidays. She looked forward to the annual free birthday breakfasts and shopping with her twin sister, Irene. Both Eileen and Irene loved sharing cake with her granddaughter, Ashley who shared the same birthday on November 7th. Her latest favorite thing (besides her great grandchildren) was to be spoiled by her son in-laws with multiple cups of coffee upon request and the resulting great conversations. Of course, all family members learned not to dare “Grandma” because she would do it just for the laughs. She had a great sense of humor. Eileen was a kind loving soul that will be very deeply missed by those that loved her. Cremation rites have been accorded. No services are planned at this time. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory, Oneida have been entrusted with arrangements. On-line condolences and/or expressions of sympathy may be sent through www.hurd-hendricksfuneralhome.com.
