David Shipp

March 2, 1946 — April 6, 2022

David Shipp, 76, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at ProMedica Nursing Home. David was born in Princeton, Il March 2, 1946. He was the son of Clayton and Ruth (Davis) Shipp. David is survived by his wife of 31 years, Peggy, two step children, Ginger (Derek) Sanders and Dan (fiancé Marielle) Sweborg, four grandchildren, Cori (Nick) Dudakiw-Warrick, Kate (Cody) Stromberg, Ben Sweborg and Mia Sweborg and one great grandchild, Dean Dudakiw-Warrick. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Anita (Tony) Charczenko. David was preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother Steve. David was a proud graduate of Princeton High School class of ‘64. Upon graduation, he joined the Caterpiller apprentice program. Successfully completing the class, he moved with CAT to York, Pa as part of their turbine program. A few years later, David joined Weldon Manufacturing as a salesman and his career was born. He loved his CNC grinders and he loved making them fit each customer’s needs. Somehow, he could just see the process in his mind. He worked for several manufacturers over the years and traveled the world to sell his beloved grinders. David loved to teach classes and share his knowledge. He was privileged to work on projects like the Hubble telescope, the lunar module, replacement hips and knees, military helicopters and weapons, and the automotive industry to name a few. After retiring, he and Peggy moved back to Illinois to be closer to family. Dave did contract work for the Rock Island Arsenal for several years until his retirement. Dave enjoyed woodworking and built furniture and clocks. He also was a hunter. In later years he and his brother enjoyed kayaking. Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of David’s life will be held at his home Saturday, April 16 from 2 to 4 PM. The family requests that any memorials be made to the charity of your choice.
