Charles Ernest Shaw

Charles Ernest Shaw, 88, Oneida, died Thursday, October 14, 2021, at his home. Charles was born in Oneida to Irving and Nellie (Reynolds) Shaw of Oneida. After graduating from ROVA High School, he earned a degree in Biology at Knox College. He served in the Army as a First Lieutenant for 2 years prior to marrying Audrey Nelson in December 1956. Charles farmed all of his life and liked farming because he could be outside and be his own boss. He was a nature lover and conservationist, a birder, a fisherman, an avid reader of WWII, and a lover of classical music. He served on the Oneida Telephone Board, the Farm Bureau, and on several committees at his church, Immanuel Lutheran. He lived with Parkinson’s Disease for 18 years and participated in the Rock Steady Boxing program in Galesburg. Since his wife, Audrey’s death almost 3 years ago, Charles received the compassionate care of many caregivers with whom we share our deepest gratitude. Charles is survived by his children: Willard Shaw (Brenda) of Oneida; daughters Marie Shaw (Colleen) of Coupeville, Washington, and Ione (Shaw) Arends (Dick) of Austin, Texas; and son-in-law, Barry Mink of Oneida. He is also survived by his grandchildren Lauren and Alison Mink, Jessica (Shaw) Enervold (Kyle), Alex Shaw; Ellie, Abbey, and Max Arends, and great-grandsons, Jordan and Kayden Enervold, as well as many beloved relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Irving and Nellie Shaw of Oneida, his siblings, Carol Mary (Shaw) Sanderson, Marjorie (Shaw) Douda, his wife, Audrey (Nelson) Shaw, and his daughter, Carolyn (Shaw) Mink. The funeral will be Tuesday, October 19th, at 5:00 pm at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altona.
