Candy Lyn Knapp, 71, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 17, 2023, at the Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville.
Candy was born on September 24, 1951 in Galesburg. She was the daughter of Aurthur and Darlene (Booz) Dixon. She married John Calvin “JC” Knapp on June 17, 1983 in Galesburg. Together they celebrated 20 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on April 30, 2004. She is survived by her children, Holly (Dave) Carver of Galeburg, David Kelso, Katy (Justin) Packingham of Galesburg and Jon Knapp of Galesburg; stepson, Todd (Kim) Knapp of West Plaines, MO; twelve grandchildren; siblings, Arlyn Dixon of Atlanta, Ga and Ken (Jeannie) Williams of Knoxville; and special life-long friend, Lealonie Elliott of Galesburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, her parents, and three step-children, Randy and Pamela.
Candy was a graduate of Galesburg High School She obtained her Bachelors of Science in Gerontology from Missouri State University. She worked as a tech for the Galesburg Research Hospital, and a social worker for Catholic Charities of Peoria, and was later a care giver for Caring Senior Services until she retired. Candy was an advocate for CASA. She loved to volunteer, craft, sew, go thrift store shopping, and going to the Civic Arts Center. She collected bears and Native American Dolls. Candy was also a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Most of all, Candy was a compassionate and caring soul, who will be greatly missed.
