Betty Louise Best

Betty Louise Best of Altona, Illinois passed away on November 11, 2020 at Marigold Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Galesburg, Illinois. She was born on October 2, 1931 in Altona, Illinois. To Lewis Peters and Ingrid Elizabeth (Nilsson) Johnson. He married Duane Best in Altona in November 21, 1952. He passed away on April 21, 2001. She is survived by children: DeAnn (Joe) Wegwert of Flagstaff, Arizona, Steve (Denise) Best of Cambridge, Illinois and Don Best of Altona, Illinois; four grandchildren, Stephanie (J.L.) Doubet of Cambridge, Katie (Wes) Wrage of Williamsfield, Aiden Charles of Flagstaff, Arizona and Corey Wegwert of Durham, North Carolina and four great grandchildren, Ellie and Anna Doubet and Max and Mason Wrage. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Duane, her parents, her brother Marvin Johnson and sister Beulah Behinger. Betty was a member of the first R.O.V.A. graduating class in 1949 and attended Western Illinois University. She taught at Williamsfield Grade School from 1951 to 1953 and taught Altona’s first kindergarten classes from 1960 to 1972. Betty was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 20 years. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altona, the Grand Lodge Independent Order of Svithiod in Peoria, Illinois, Altona. Cremation rites will be accorded. Due to COVID-19 restrictions a celebration of life will be held at later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Altona Immanuel Lutheran Church or Altona Ransom Public Library.
