Barnard P. Almquist, age 80, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 8:50 P.M. on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, Illinois.
He was born on November 5, 1942 in Galesburg, Illinois the son of Percy and Bernice (Johnson) Almquist. He attended and graduated from ROVA High School, the class of 1960. He married Marsha Copeland in 1964.
Surviving is a daughter, Joyce Robbins of Galesburg, Illinois and a son, William “Bill” (Gretchen) Almquist of Sparta, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He worked as a mechanic for Kelly Oil Co in Altona, Illinois, S&S Ford Motors in Galva, Illinois, and Haneghan’s in Galesburg, Illinois. He also was a tour guide at the Galesburg Railroad Museum for many years. He loved Fords, especially Mavericks, his pets, motorcycles, and the Cubs. He was an avid railroad fan, known for his train photography, his extensive model train layout, and his store Barney’s Model Railroad Junction. He was a member of the Grove Community Church in Altona, Illinois.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Monday, February 20, 2023 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Oneida, Illinois. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Walnut Grove Cemetery, Altona, Illinois.
