Avanelle M. Way, age 87, of Knoxville, Illinois, died at 4:32 A.M. on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at the Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville. She was born on May 16, 1931 in Galesburg, Illinois, the daughter of Alvin J. and Golda A. (Matthews) Hanson. She was reared and educated in the Knoxville area. On February 23, 1948, she wed Glenn Way in Champaign, Illinois. He preceded her in death on May 24, 1972. She began working at the Circle T Restaurant on Illinois Route 150, then went on to become a cook at the Knoxville elementary school and high school, last she worked at Shotts Market. She also worked for Meals on Wheels. Avanelle is survived by her son, Monty (and Penny) Way of Galesburg; her daughter, Monica (and Ken) Tetrault of Meridina, Idaho; seven grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; her brother; a daughter, Glenna; and three grandchildren. She was an active member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Knoxville, as well as the church’s Women’s Group; she helped with making the church bulletins for many years. Volunteering at the Knox County Nursing Home and the Knoxville Legion Auxiliary were also ways she enjoyed spending her time. Cremation rites will be accorded. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, January 14, 2019 at the Knoxville Cemetery in Knoxville, Rev. David Shreeves officiating. A Fellowship gathering will be held following the services at the Hurd-Hendricks Fellowship Center in Knoxville.
