Rodney Lytle

April 13, 1963 - October 27, 2020

Rodney Dean Lytle, Galesburg Illinois The Man. The Myth. The Legend. Rod went home to be with our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, October 27, 2020, 8:35 am at St. Mary's Medical Center, Galesburg. Rod attended Galesburg Schools. He was a Sergeant for the Illinois Department of Corrections (Henry Hill) for 26 years, retiring in 2013. Rod spent his time enjoying Motorcycles most of all, along with fishing, shooting, camping and vacations to his "Happy Place" Navarre Beach, Florida with the love of his life, wife Julie and his son Chris. Rod's world revolved around Julie and Chris and making lots of wonderful memories with them. Rod also had countless friends and family that meant a lot to him. Although Rod was physically strong, (between his weight lifting and big guns), he was mentally and emotionally strong as well. Rod was the definition of a True Warrior fighting a courageous battle with Pancreatic Canter for three years. Rod fought hard every day; he did not lose his battle…he just ran out of time. If love could have saved him, he would have lived forever. Julie and family wish for anyone family or stranger, when faced with a tough fight or troubling situation to be like Rod and face it #LYTLESTRONG. Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of life and Memorial Ride will be held at a later date. Family members and friends are always welcome to stop by Rod, Julie and Chris's home to reminisce and visit. Memorials may be made to the Benefit of Chrispatrick Burgin-Lytle for his college fund. Arrangements have been entrusted with Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory, Knoxville. Expressions of sympathy may be left to the family at www.hurd-hendricks.com.
