Jerry Lee Britton, 84, of Knoxville, died on Friday, September 11, 2020, 2:02 AM, at the Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville. Jerry was born on November 19, 1935, in Monmouth. He was the son of Elbert and Merle (Brownlee) Britton. He married Ruth Wainman in 1957. Together they celebrated 28 years of marriage. Jerry is survived by his daughter, Maria (Douglass) Beardsley of Knoxville; son, Jerry L. Britton, Jr. of Las Vegas, NV; four grandchildren, Vance (Heidi) Swope, Randi Swope, Jessica Britton, Justin Britton; and four great-grandchildren, Violet, Roman, Alyssa, and Logan. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Britton-Orwig; and grandson, Christopher Britton. Jerry attended Monmouth Schools. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He served as an Ammunitions Storage Specialist in the Korean War. Jerry worked as a ranch hand from 1963-1969 for the StuartRanch in Las Vegas, New Mexico. He then went on to work at Gates Rubber Company in Denver, CO in 1970. Jerry would eventually work as a custodian for the Poudre School District in Fort Collins, Colorado until his retirement. Jerry used to raise rabbits and tried his hand at bee keeping for a while. He also did the plastic canvas work and volunteered to help with crafts at some of the local nursing homes. Jerry also volunteered to drive the senior van for local seniors. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Knoxville. Jerry had a heart of gold and maintained his cowboy spirit. Cremation rites have been accorded. No services are planned at this time. Arrangements have been entrusted with Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory, Knoxville.
