ELSIE MAE ANDERSON, age 96, of Altona, Illinois died Friday, October 10, 2008 at 12:40 A.M. at the Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, Illinois. She was born on August 24, 1912 in Chilhowie, Virginia, the daughter of Robert and Minnie I. Widener Martin. She married Ralph Newell Anderson on December 7, 1931 in Clinchberg, Virginia. He preceded her in death on October 3, 1980.
Surviving are three daughters, Rita (Jim) Clevenger of Henderson, Illinois, Kathy Todd of Batesville, Mississippi and Susie (Tony) Miller of Galesburg, Illinois; four sons: Ralph D. (Marcella) Anderson of Wyanet, Illinois, Robert (Sandy) Anderson of Escondido, California, R. Douglas (Marcia) Anderson of Galva, Illinois, and K. Marty Anderson of Galesburg, Illinois; twenty-three grandchildren; forty-three great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; one half-sister, Aileen Russell of Marion, Virginia; one step-sister, Mabel Martin of Chilhowie, Virginia and one step-brother, Eugene Blevins of Chilhowie, Virginia. She was preceded in death by parents; one son: Gary Anderson; six brothers; one sister; two half-sisters; one step-brother and one great grandson: Christopher Todd.
She was raised and educated in Chilhowie, Virginia. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altona, Illinois where she and her husband were formerly custodians for over 20 years. She was active in the War Mothers of World War II and Mary Martha's Group.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 13, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altona, Illinois. Rev. Tim Anderson officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 12, 2008 from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the Hurd Hendricks Funeral Home in Oneida, Illinois. Burial in the Rosedale Cemetery in Cambridge, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altona, Illinois.
