Life Legacy
Roger D. Simkins, age 52, of Galesburg, Illinois died at on Sunday, July 15, 2012 at his residence in Galesburg, Illinois.
He was born on June 14, 1960 in Galesburg, Illinois, the son of Danny and Patricia Carlson Simkins. He was raised and educated in Knoxville, Illinois graduating from the Knoxville High school in 1978. He married Theresa Wardlow on December 28, 1985 in Knoxville, Illinois.
Surviving is his mother and step-father: Patricia (Robert) Schaefer of Knoxville, Illinois. One son: Luke (Jessica) Simkins of East Galesburg, Illinois. Three grandchildren: Madisyn Simkins; Johnathon Simkins; and Anthony Thurman. One brother: Rick (Peggy Nuss) Simkins of Knoxville, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents: Myrtle and Frances Carlson.
He was a self-employed carpenter working in the Galesburg area. He was member of Grace Lutheran Church of Knoxville, Illinois. He loved the outdoors including camping and fishing. He attended classes in the Carl Sandburg College and recently attended a stained glass class at the Barn in Knoxville, Illinois. Avid stock car racer, both building and driving; Demo Derby car competitions.
Graveside Memorial Services will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at the Knoxville Cemetery, Knoxville, Illinois. Rev. Michel D. Clark officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Knoxville, Illinois with a prayer service at 7:30 PM. Inurnment will be in the Knoxville Cemetery, Knoxville, Illinois. Memorials may be made to Habitat for Humanities or FISH.
