CARL EDWARD "RAMROD" JOHNSON, age 68, of Abingdon, Illinois died on Thursday, July 29, 2010 at 12:23 A.M. at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, Illinois. He was born on June 16, 1942 in Monmouth, Illinois, the son of Loren and Eva Bell Johnson. He married Bernadine Shepard on December 16, 1961 in East Galesburg, Illinois. He later married Caroline Wyman Cooper on January 2, 1989 in Lincoln, Illinois. She preceded him in death on June 20, 2010.
Surviving are three daughters, Susan (Steve) Lindsey of Knoxville, Illinois, Donna (Paul) Sizemore of London, Kentucky and Ann Johnson of Galesburg, Illinois; two sons, James Johnson of Abingdon, Illinois and Glen Cooper of Springfield, Illinois; six grandsons; three granddaughters; one great grandson; his mother, Eva Johnson of Abingdon, Illinois; three brothers and one sister. He was preceded in death by his father, wife, son: Gary "Spudhead" Johnson, daughter: Vicki Cooper Curry, one granddaughter and two brothers.
He attended Alwood Schools and Chauffeur's Training School. He worked for Carlson Farms between Galesburg and Wataga, Illinois for over 40 years. He was a member of the Golden Eagle CB Club, Galesburg CB Club, National Rifleman's Association of Illinois and Eagles 518. He attended East Galesburg Community Chapel in East Galesburg, Illinois.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 2, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at the Hurd Hendricks Funeral Home in Knoxville, Illinois. Rev. Brian Sexton officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 1, 2010 from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home in Knoxville, Illinois. Burial in Knoxville Cemetery in Knoxville, Illinois. Fellowship at the Hurd Hendricks Fellowship Center, 126 South Public Square, Knoxville, Illinois after the services. In Lieu of Flowers, Memorials may be made to the Family.
