JOHN ROBERT MERCER, age 59, of Chicago, Illinois died on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at 6:04 A.M. at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. He was born on May 24, 1950 in Evergreen Park, Illinois, the son of William Parnel and Anna Mae Mutzbauer Mercer.
Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Anna Mae and Leonard Gorski of Oak Run, Dahinda, Illinois; three sisters, Maureen (Victor) Mahnesmith of Gilson, Illinois, Abigail (Mike) Edgerton of Lily Lake, Illinois and Lenore (Al) Opal of Plainfield, Illinois; three brothers, William (Kathy) Mercer of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, Mark (Diane) Mercer of Hickory Hills, Illinois and Thomas (Pat) Gorski of Dahinda, Illinois; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.
He was reared and educated in Chicago, Illinois attending St. Leo High School; St. Rita High School and Harper High School. He was of the Catholic faith.
Cremation Rites will be accorded.
Memorial Services will be held on Sunday, February 7, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at the United Methodist Church in Dahinda, Illinois. Rev. Randy Douglass officiating. There will be no visitation. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Pacific Gardens Rescue Mission, 1458 S. Canal Street, Chicago, IL 60607. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois in charge of arrangements.
