Ralph E. Ellis, age 70, of 403 E. Main, Altona, Illinois died on Monday, October 26, 2009 at 1:10 A.M. at his residence in Altona, Illinois. He was born on January 9, 1939 in Canton, Illinois, the son of Arnold and Helen Powell Ellis. He married Carol McGraw Drury on July 31, 1983 in Rock Island, Illinois. She survives of Altona, Illinois.
Also surviving are four sons, Robert (Lisa) McClay of Sarasota, Florida, Brian (Pauline) McClay of Oneida, Illinois, Terry (Teresa) McClay of Galesburg, Illinois and Tim (Annette) McClay of East Galesburg, Illinois; fourteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren and one sister, Pat Bodenhamer of Galesburg, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister: Robin and step-son: Mark Drury.
He was reared and educated in Abingdon, Illinois. He attended Clackamas Community College in Oregon City, Oregon. He served in the United States Air Force from 1957 until 1961; then the United States Army from January 15, 1962 until January 15, 1964 and then the Army Reserves until September 9, 1968. He was an over the road trucker for Atlas Van Lines and Mayflower in Tucson, Arizona.
Cremation Rites will be accorded.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at the New Life Fellowship in Wataga, Illinois. Rev. Roger Swanson officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to Wounded Warriors or Disabled Veterans. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois in charge of arrangements.
